Weinsburg Caravan Insurance
cover for a Weinsburg tourer, including the upgrades owners tend to add to them
Cover for a Weinsburg touring caravan in its own right. It answers for sudden damage, theft and storm, and on these vans the upgrades and equipment added after purchase need listing so they form part of the sum insured.
- German built, value focused
- Upgrades need declaring
- Storage leads the rating
- FCA authorised and regulated
Quick answerWeinsburg is the value end of German caravan building, which is exactly why so many of these vans end up modified: owners buy a sound base and then add a mover, an awning, solar equipment and better upholstery. All of that is value, and none of it is insured unless the insurer is told. Tell us the van and what you have added, and specialist UK brokers can come back with quotes.

Six Points About Insuring a Weinsburg
Six things a Weinsburg owner should settle before buying cover.
- List what you have added
- Movers, awnings, solar and upholstery
- The base price is not the value
- Insure what the van is now
- The towing car covers none of it
- Towing liability only
- Storage leads the rating
- Graded site, yard or driveway
- Declare European trips
- Usually capped in days
- Damp is never covered
- Keep the service record
The basics
The Weinsburg Details an Underwriter Asks For
A Weinsburg is quoted like any tourer, with one wrinkle worth attending to: these vans are frequently upgraded after purchase, and an insurer can only include what it has been told about.
The van itself
Make, model, year and berth.
What it is worth
Replacement cost today.
Where it is kept
A drive, a yard or a graded site.
Security fitted
Hitchlock, clamp, alarm, tracker.
Where you take it
UK sites, rallies or Europe.
Who tows it
Owners and anybody else permitted.
How it works
Putting Weinsburg Cover Together
The process is short. What matters is describing the storage accurately, because it does more to a caravan premium than anything else on the form.
Identify the van
Make, model, year and CRiS number.
Say where it is kept
Home, a storage site or a pitch.
Describe how it is used
Weekends away, long tours, rallies, a seasonal pitch or European trips.
Weigh the quotes up
Price against the replacement basis.
What it covers
What Answers For a Damaged Weinsburg
The sections that answer for sudden damage to the van, what is inside it, and the awning if you add it.
| Section | Where it sits | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Damage to the van | Comprehensive cover | Repair or settlement for a Weinsburg caravan |
| Theft | Included | Hitchlock, clamp and tracker conditions apply |
| Weather damage | Included | Storm, flood, falling branches |
| Equipment and belongings | A limit of its own | Not the same pot as the van |
| Awning | Frequently optional | And frequently forgotten |
| Continental cover | By arrangement | With a limit on days away |
| Legal expenses | An add-on | Recovering an uninsured loss |
Write the upgrades down. A motor mover, a full awning, solar equipment and replacement upholstery can add a substantial sum to what replacing the van would cost, and the standard contents figure will not stretch to cover them.
What it leaves out
Where the Cover Stops on a Weinsburg
Every policy has edges, and on a Weinsburg caravan they fall in fairly predictable places. Damp is the one that surprises people.
Ingress and consequent damp
Sealant and seams are yours to maintain.
Mechanical and structural deterioration
A policy is not a maintenance contract.
Losses where the locks were not fitted
Declared security becomes a condition.
Belongings in an awning overnight
Rarely covered, and worth knowing.
Renting the van out
Unless the policy says otherwise.
Gradual water ingress
The commonest reason a caravan claim is refused.
The Weinsburg range
The Range of Weinsburg Models on UK Sites
Weinsburg builds a straightforward continental range, and what separates two examples is usually what the owner has added rather than what left the factory.
Compact two berth tourers
Light and easy to store.
Family layouts
More berths and more value.
Heavily upgraded examples
Worth more than the base van.
Twin-axle models
Higher values, more security.
Vans used across Europe
Declared, with a day limit.
Used Weinsburg vans
Where agreed value comes in.

Who it suits
The Owners Behind the Weinsburg Badge
Weinsburg attracts owners who want continental build without the top price, and a good many of them spend the difference on equipment.
Value-minded buyers
German build at a sensible price.
Owners who upgrade
Movers, awnings and solar.
Touring families
Larger layouts.
Continental tourers
Trips abroad, declared.
Used Weinsburg buyers
Condition over age.
Twin-axle owners
Higher value, more security.

Standard or upgraded
A Weinsburg in Storage vs One Kept at Home
Two Weinsburgs of the same year can be worth quite different sums, and the difference is entirely in what has been added since.
| As built | Upgraded | |
|---|---|---|
| What sets the value | The factory specification | The factory van plus extras |
| Typical sum insured | Straightforward | Higher, and easy to understate |
| What the insurer needs | Make, model and year | A list of what is fitted |
| Where it goes wrong | Rarely | A short settlement |

Cost
What Sets the Price of Weinsburg Cover
The van, its value, where it is kept, the security fitted and the claims record. We do not print average premiums.
Why the extras belong on the schedule
Fitted equipment is replaced after a total loss only if the insurer knew it was there. A mover, an awning and solar equipment together can be a meaningful share of what the van is worth, and the general contents figure does not reach them.
Why storage still carries the quote
Whatever is fitted, the van stands still for most of the year. Where it stands, and what protects it there, remains the largest single factor after the value.

Four Terms Every Weinsburg Owner Has to Meet
These are the practical terms behind a Weinsburg caravan. Easy to meet and easy to forget, which is exactly why they are worth listing.

FAQs
Weinsburg Caravan Insurance FAQs
Answers on the towing car, new for old, storage, security devices and damp.
Is Weinsburg the same as Knaus?
They come from the same German group and share engineering, but they are separate ranges with their own specifications. For insurance each van is quoted on its own details rather than on the group behind it.
Do I need to list the motor mover?
Yes. A mover is a valuable fitted accessory and it is frequently outside the standard contents figure. Mentioning it at the quote is what puts it inside the sum insured.
What about solar equipment and an awning?
Both are worth declaring. Awnings take the worst of the wind and are among the more common claims, and roof-mounted equipment is expensive to replace. Neither is reliably included by default.
How should I value an upgraded van?
Start from what an equivalent would cost and add what you have fitted since. Owners who value from the original purchase price are the ones who find a settlement falls short.
Can I tour Europe in it?
Yes, once declared. There is normally a cap on the days abroad in a policy year, so check that figure against the trips you plan before you set off.
Is damp covered?
No, on this van as on any caravan. Gradual ingress through seams and seals is treated as a maintenance matter, and a documented damp check each year is the practical protection.
Does the German build change the repair?
It can mean fewer workshops are familiar with the van. Ask whether the policy uses an approved network or lets you nominate a specialist, because it affects how long a repair takes.
What security will be asked for?
A hitchlock and a wheelclamp at minimum, used every time the van is left. On a well-equipped van a tracker is often worth fitting, both for recovery and for what insurers make of it.
Will the towing car’s policy do for a Weinsburg caravan?
No. It extends third-party liability while towing and nothing more. The caravan itself, its contents and everything that happens when it is unhitched sit outside it entirely.
What settlement basis should I look for?
New for old while the van is within the age limit, then agreed value if it is older or unusual. Market value is the weakest of the three and worth identifying before you buy rather than after a total loss.
Do I need a tracker?
Not usually required, but frequently rewarded. Trackers improve the odds of recovering a stolen van, and insurers price that in, particularly on higher-value or twin-axle vans.
Does a caravan need its own no claims bonus?
Many insurers run one, built up separately from the car. It is worth asking how yours is earned and whether it can be protected, because a single claim can undo several years.
What locks will I be asked to fit?
A hitchlock and a wheelclamp are the usual minimum, and they have to be used rather than owned. Insurers check after a theft, and a van taken with the clamp in the locker is a difficult conversation.
Is a driveway acceptable to insurers?
Generally yes, and it is what a good many owners do. A gated or graded storage site usually rates better, so if you have the choice it is worth pricing both.
Does a caravan need an MOT?
Touring caravans are not tested, but servicing still matters. A serviced van with a damp check behind it is easier to insure and easier to claim on than one with no history.
Can anyone tow it?
Subject to the policy terms and their licence entitlement. What a driver may tow depends on when they passed their test and the combined weight, so check before handing over the keys.
